VISION:
"Ik ben een PERMANENTE CULTUUR designer. Een nieuwe cultuur; een bewuste cultuur, Een cultuur die op deze planeet in harmonie met de moeder Aarde wil leven. Een cultuur; Wereld Nodig Hebben De mensheid Nodig Hebben. Een cultuur die exponentieel en stil groeit, Mensen maken die cultuur en ik ben een van hen. Ik maak. Met mijn ontwerpen en handen. Ik maak." - I know now that I'm a part of something great, much greater than I'm or we are, - I'm aware - I know that what I do today counts I enjoy the ride. With ups and downs.... |

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Permaculture Design Course with Patrick Whitefield:
Permaculture Design Course has been completed with Patrick Whitefield. I had already read his book The Earth Care Manual, which is a mile stone in Permaculture history. Also the book How To Make Forest Garden was an eye opener for me. Meeting personally with Patrick and his wife Cathy was great. Such friendly people with lots of wisdom and also kind souls. The group of students became friends and we joined officially to Permaculture Designer's family.
Learning and observing the practical applications of Permaculture in the Ragmans Lane Farm added so much knowledge to me. I have learned the technical aspects of Permaculture Design and also Permaculture tools and design methods, Soil knowledge, willow usage and windbreaks, Forest Garden were the highlights of the Course. After the main design exercises and practising it directly on the land gave me great knowledge on the Permaculture Designs. One of my dream came true with receiving the Permaculture Design Course certificate from Patrick Whitefield himself. I'm very proud of it.

Introduction to Permaculture with Sepp Holzer:
I had my first introduction course with Sepp Holzer in Tamera Eco-Village in Portugal. Meeting with Mr. Holzer personally was a life time experience. He is a great character and his energy and passion takes you in immediately. He is one of the living visionary really. He calls himself Rebel Farmer and listening his stories about rebeling against the government stupidities are fun but also amazing how determined he is. If one person gets into a positive passion with a vision, there is nothing can stop him.
I have also read all of his 3 books and in the course, listening his life-earned experiences really opened my eyes. The most important thing I learned from him is to "Observe" principle of Permaculture. He always repeats it in his teachings, "nature teach us if we can listen and observe with open eyes and minds". And also his teachings focus on how perfect and dynamic nature is. The importance of the water, "Water is life", bees, cycles of nature, diversity, mix seeding and so many other things. He is like a living library but more importantly He is a "real farmer" to learn from.
A few years later I have visited him at his farm Krameterhof in Austria. An altitude of 1400 mt, he has created his own paradise with years of life experience. I'm great admirer of him. I wish there were more people like him in our world and they were recognised with their achievements.

Learning by Doing:
Doing it is the best way of learning for me. I read many books, watched documentaries and videos about Permaculture, completed courses but my final learnings came from my activities with my garden in Germany.
I had chance to have 500 m2 garden when I lived close by Dresden-Germany. Those 3 years gave me great knowledge on organic gardening and I practised many ideas I learned from the courses, books and videos.
I have to admit I made many mistakes and I'm glad I made them because I have learned a lot from them.
My main practisings in organic gardening and Permaculture included raised beds, pond creations, composting(warm and cold), herb spirals, bee keeping, sheet mulching, orchard management, pest management, soil fertilization and so on.

Learnings from David Holmgren and Geoff Lawton:
I have to mention my learnings from Mr Holmgren and Mr Lawton. I watched countless of their videos, read their books, teachings, writings and documentaries. I invested buying 5 DVD's from Mr Lawton, which was a very impactfull in my learnings. I wish Australia was not at the other side of the world and I could personally meet them, learn more from them and also thank them for everything they are doing for this world. Great men!
I recommend everyone who is interested in the world matters to check out their websites. The inspration is there.

Earthship Seminar, Berlin 2014 with Michael Reynolds(The Garbage Warrior):
On the 25th of May 2014, I have managed to join Michael Reynolds European Tour in Berlin. It was a full day seminar with so much information. Listening him directly from his own words is different than watching him in YouTube. He is very funny guy and lots of wisdom. Years of struggle for his passion and toughness that one can feel on him. Some people are ahead of their time, he is one of them. Most of his life, as an architect and as a Garbage Warrior spent to create something for himself and for humanity. A freedom, a living place which is self sustainable. And, he did this against almost the whole world. His achivements are nowadays are being understood and started taking off but imagine, he spent his life for it. How many of us can be that strong for our passion? Volunteer Work at AARDEHUIS.NL site, June 2014 :
To experience and see the real thing, I volunteered in the Netherlands Earthships village. It is called aardehuis because the principles of the Earthships are not fully used but adapted to the Dutch climate and economical posibilities. For example the tires which filled up with earth at the back of the earthships later changed to strawbales, which is easier and more efficient way of dealing with the building work.
While I was volunteering, there was a strawbale workshop and I had a chance to join a part of it. The learnings and working on real strawbale building gave me the understanding how it can work effectively and affordably. The Earthship buildings can be very luxury and spacious with similar costs as an ordinary building but it can be as low cost as 50,000 euros with material costs. The most costly item is the land and if the land is not an issue then you have a home without a mortgage or monthly rent within a year. Doesn't sound great?
The sewage, water and energy systems are adjusted versions. There is still a connection to the mainstream electricity and it works both ways. When the solar panels are providing electricity more than needed then it is feeding in to the mainstream but when it is not good enough then it is taking from the main lines. It is the similar system I saw in Tamera Eco Village a few years ago.
The sewage system is based on composting and careful usage with well processed material. The water system is based on ground water which more than enough in the Netherlands. So, there is always room for adjustments.
Beautiful buildings with their own energy, water, sewage and food. This is the future.

FOOD FORESTRY MASTERCLASS COURSE, The Netherlands, 2015
